Tracey Hawkins and The Storybook Challenge
September 5th, 2012During June of this year, Tracey Hawkins took part in a whirlwind tour of the Cootamundra and Young region to launch the new literary competition, The Storybook Challenge.
Tracey entertained the students of Sacred Heart Central School and Young North Public School with readings from her books,Max Meets a Monster and Nancy Bentley: the First Australian Female Sailor. Max Meets a Monsteris on the 2012 Victorian Premier's Reading Challenge list and Nancy Bentley: the First Australian Female Sailoris shortlisted for the Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards 2012.
Tracey was one of many authors launching The Storybook Challenge, which took place between April and June. The Storybook Challenge was supported by Terry Bros. Carpet Court and their partner, the Children's Charity Network. The challenge, which allowed students from eligible schools in Years One to Four, to submit and illustrate a story that shared what they love most about their community. The winner received $1000 worth of books and a colourful reading mat for their classroom or library.
Tracey was thrilled to be apart of a program that promoted literacy among young locals and encouraged children to be excited about reading and develop wider literary skills.
