New Frontier in Uganda
August 21st, 2012Recently, New Frontier donated books to the Child’s i Foundation.
In Kampala, Uganda, the Child’s i Foundation has been working towards creating transitional homes and family support centres that provide short-term protective care for up to 24 at-risk babies from 0-2 years old. Their first centre, Malaika Care, has been up and running for only a couple of months and has already been met with great success.
Reading and books are not an everyday occurrence for the children at Malaika Care and at first the notion of sitting still and turning pages was quite a foreign one. However, it wasn’t long until they realised the true magic of storytelling and picked up each book again and again and again. There was also a noticeable difference in both speech and word recognition amongst some of the older boys after reading our picture book, Koala Sees The World.
New Frontier are very happy to support such an amazing cause that helps introduce children to books and reading. To join us, you can donate at www.childsifoundation.org by buying a brick that goes towards building the next Child’s i Foundation centre in Uganda. Or to follow the great work Child’s i is doing, you can visit their Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/childsifoundation
