Hazel Edwards receives OAM for Literature
November 5th, 2013Congratulations to Hazel Edwards who received her OAM for Literature at Government House on the weekend.
Hazel is the author of Flight of the Bumblebee as well as two Aussie Heroes books, Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop and Fred Hollows. Edith Cowan will be released next year.
Hazel has committed her time over the years to many literary bodies in order to encourage and promote literacy in Australia. These include:
Director, Board of Directors, Australian Society of Authors, since 2002
Founding Member, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, since 1981
Council Member, Victoria College (now Deakin University, 1980-1984
Reading Ambassador, 2012 National Year of Reading, Love2Read, and Premier’s Reading Challenges
