Congratulations to Hazel Edwards

Congratulations to Hazel Edwards on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to literature.



Hazel is the author of Flight of the Bumblebee (illustrated by Mini Goss) and two Aussie Heroes books, Sir Edward 'Weary' Dunlop and Professor Fred Hollows. Hazel is currently working on a new Aussie Heroes book featuring a female hero.

Hazel has committed her time over the years to many literary bodies in order to encourage and promote literacy in Australia. These include:


Director, Board of Directors, Australian Society of Authors, since 2002

Founding Member, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, since 1981

Council Member, Victoria College (now Deakin University, 1980-1984

Reading Ambassador, 2012 National Year of Reading, Love2Read, and Premier’s Reading Challenges


We congratulate Hazel on this well deserved honour.
